The new 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid super sedan is the first plug-in hybrid from this automaker that can make up to 416 hp, which will enable the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 269 km/h (167 mph). It can go 20 miles on electric power alone.

Based on the oh-so-subtly redesigned 2014 Panamera sedan, the S E-Hybrid takes the lessons learned from it first gas-electric model — the Panamera S Hybrid — and ups the ante with better batteries, more power and the ability to drive over 20 miles on electric power alone.

The Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid 2014 is characterized by its well-known design, and its front end comes with restyled headlights. Rear of the car is smoother and quieter than the previous model and has new lights and bumper. According to unnamed sources, this vehicle will be in production, and during the 2014. will be in the market, and will be designed for the American market. The move is part of a larger plug-in offensives by VW company, which owns 49.9% of the Porsche shares.

The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the previous model remains, and when mated to a completely redesigned electric motor, offers up 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque in total. That combined output comes courtesy of a 95-hp electric motor — a substantial boost over the original Panamera Hybrid’s 47-hp electric mill.

More importantly, Porsche added a 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that’s more modern, more energy dense and lighter. That pack allows around 20 miles of all-electric motoring and can be fully charged in about two and a half hours on a 240-volt outlet.

The fuel consumption of this model was reduced by 56% compared to the previous model. 2014 Porsche Panamera so-Hybrid consumes just 3.1 L/100km (75.88 mpg) and 71g/km of emissions released. Only on electricity, this model can reach a top speed of 133 km/h (82.6 mph) and can travel 17 to 35 kilometers (10.5 to 21.5 miles), depending on the speed.

Porsche hasn’t released EPA mileage figures yet, but it has released a price: $99,000 when the Panamera S E-Hybrid goes on sale later this year.
